THINGS TO DO ON THE KEY PENINSULA

Beaches

Trails

Activities & Events

Key Peninsula is (perhaps obviously) surrounded by beaches. Many public parks have beach access, but some community favorites include Penrose State Park (bring your Discover Pass) and Maple Hollow Park (with views back toward Rainier). A recent acquistion of KeyPen parks is Taylor Bay Park, with some beach access on the southwest side of the Key Peninsula.

With all this forested area on the peninsula, there are many opportunities to get out and explore nature. The 360 Trails at the north end of the Key Peninsula are available for walkers, horseback riders, and mountain bikers. There is a main 2.5-mile loop trail, and then several smaller trails off that loop. KeyPen parks has several other tracts of forested land with a variety of kinds of trails, including the Rocky Creek Conversation Area, which surrounds a salmon-bearing creek.

The Key Peninsula is a great place to get out in nature and enjoy the best parts of living in the Puget Sound including boating, kayaking, hiking, and more. There is also an annual Independence Day celebration with fireworks near Purdy that people line their cars along the Purdy spit to see. The Key Peninsula Civic Center in Vaughn has regular events and activities as well (yoga, skate night, etc). The most comprehensive list of activities on the Key Peninsula is the non-profit Key Peninsula News site.
